8 Days Turkey — Istanbul, Cappadocia & Pamukkale

Land at Istanbul Airport and be welcomed by your tour manager. Transfer to your hotel in Sultanahmet, Istanbul's historic heart. Evening stroll along the Bosphorus waterfront — the sky turns orange as Europe and Asia glow on either side of the strait. Welcome dinner of Turkish mezze and baklava.

The full Istanbul day: Hagia Sophia — 1,500 years of history in one breathtaking dome. The Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Mosque) with its cascade of domes and six minarets. Topkapi Palace where sultans once ruled empires. Afternoon lost in the labyrinthine Grand Bazaar — 4,000 shops, one legendary Turkish tea.

Morning Bosphorus cruise between the continents — past Ottoman palaces, fortresses, and the green hills of the Asian shore. Afternoon at the Egyptian Spice Bazaar for saffron, Turkish delight, and rose water. Climb Galata Tower for a panoramic city view before a rooftop dinner over the Golden Horn.

Fly to Kayseri and transfer to Göreme — the heart of Cappadocia. Check in to your cave hotel carved into the volcanic rock. Afternoon at the Derinkuyu Underground City (8 levels deep), then a sunset walk through Göreme's Rose Valley where fairy chimneys glow amber in the last light.

The trip's unmissable moment: a 5am pickup for your sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia — arguably the most spectacular sunrise view on earth. Land for a champagne toast, then spend the day at Uçhisar Castle (Cappadocia's highest point), the Göreme Open-Air Museum of rock-cut Byzantine churches, and the surreal Devrent (Imagination) Valley.

Transfer to Pamukkale — the Cotton Castle. The travertine terraces: calcium-white pools cascading down a hillside, each filled with warm turquoise mineral water. Wade through the terraces at sunset. Then swim in Cleopatra's Antique Pool — an ancient Roman pool where you swim among fallen marble columns. Genuinely unlike anywhere else on earth.

Drive to Ephesus — one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world. Walk the marble-paved main street past the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre (25,000 seats), and the Terrace Houses. Visit the House of the Virgin Mary on the hilltop. Afternoon in the coastal resort town of Kusadasi for shopping and a seafood dinner by the Aegean.

Transfer to Izmir airport or onward to Istanbul for your international flight home. Last chance for Turkish coffee and lokum at the airport. Eight days, two continents, one remarkable country.
