8 Days Nepal & Bhutan — Kathmandu, Pokhara & Paro

Fly into Tribhuvan International Airport. Transfer to your hotel in Thamel — Kathmandu's colourful backpacker-and-boutique district. Afternoon at Pashupatinath Temple — the holiest Hindu temple in Nepal, on the Bagmati River, with cremations, sadhus, and ancient tradition happening openly. Evening circumambulation of the great Boudhanath Stupa — 500 prayer wheels, 5,000 butter lamps, and the Buddha's eyes watching from above.

Full Kathmandu Valley day: Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) on its hilltop with city and Himalayan views. The medieval Kathmandu Durbar Square — living palace, temple courtyards, and the Kumari (Living Goddess) occasionally visible at her window. Ancient Patan Durbar Square's Newari craftsmanship. End at Bhaktapur — the most preserved medieval city in Nepal and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fly or drive to Pokhara (25-min flight or 6-hr scenic drive). Check in to your lakeside hotel on Phewa Lake. Afternoon rowboat on the lake — the perfect reflection of Annapurna's snowfields in the still water, and the golden Tal Barahi Temple on its island. Davis Falls (Patale Chhango) where a river disappears into the earth.

5am drive to Sarangkot hilltop for the most celebrated Himalayan sunrise in Nepal: Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail) and Manaslu emerging from darkness in shades of rose and gold. Optional: paragliding from Sarangkot over Phewa Lake (included in deluxe upgrades). Afternoon walk through Pokhara's Old Bazaar and a lakeside lunch.

Fly from Pokhara or Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan — the approach is arguably the world's most dramatic landing, slicing through mountain valleys with peaks on either side. Clear Bhutanese customs and meet your licensed Bhutan guide. Afternoon visit to Rinpung Dzong — a fortress-monastery guarding the Paro Valley since 1646. The Paro town evening is serene, gentle, and completely unlike anywhere else.

The journey's centrepiece: the Tiger's Nest Monastery (Taktsang Palphug), clinging to a sheer cliff 900m above the Paro Valley floor. The 4-5 hour hike through pine forest and prayer flags leads to one of the world's most stunning buildings — built where Guru Rinpoche meditated in the 8th century. Descent for a traditional Bhutanese lunch. Evening Bhutanese culture show with folk dances and an archery demonstration.

Drive to Thimphu — Bhutan's tiny, traffic-light-free capital. The massive Buddha Dordenma statue (169 feet) overlooking the valley. Drive over the Dochu La pass (3,100m) with its 108 chortens and Himalayan panorama. Descend to Punakha — Bhutan's former capital — for the stunning Punakha Dzong at the confluence of two rivers, the most beautiful dzong in Bhutan. Walk Bhutan's longest suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu.

Final morning of butter tea, local crafts shopping (hand-woven textiles, thangka paintings, wooden bowls), and an optional archery lesson — Bhutan's national sport. Your guide transfers you to Paro International Airport for your flight home. Two kingdoms, eight days, one journey that reshapes how you see the world.
