6 Days Meghalaya — Shillong, Cherrapunji & Dawki

Fly into Guwahati and your tour manager transfers you on the 3-hour drive through Assamese flatlands to Shillong — the Scotland of the East. Check in to your hotel, then explore Ward's Lake and the colourful Police Bazaar market. Evening at a local café for Khasi pork and jadoh rice — the flavours of Meghalaya begin.

Morning at Elephant Falls — three tiers of cascades hidden in forest. Drive to Shillong Peak (1,966m) for a panorama stretching to Bangladesh on clear days. The Don Bosco Museum of indigenous Northeast cultures — the most comprehensive in the region. Sunset at Laitlum Canyon: sheer cliffs dropping into a valley of cloud and paddy.

Drive 50km to Cherrapunji — the wettest place on earth. Nohkalikai Falls (1,115 feet — India's tallest plunge waterfall), best seen post-monsoon when the volume is staggering. Mawsmai Limestone Cave with its cathedral chambers. Seven Sisters Falls with its seven parallel ribbons of water. Return via Eco Park for the Bangladesh plains view.

The trek most people come to Meghalaya for. Descend 3,500 steps into the Nongriat village to reach the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge — two bridges grown by training fig tree roots over 200 years, still living and still growing. Swim in the natural emerald pool beneath, surrounded by jungle. Ascend back via the village homestay route. A full, rewarding, unforgettable day.

Morning at Mawlynnong — officially Asia's cleanest village. Immaculate, flower-lined, community-kept. Climb the giant bamboo watchtower for a birds-eye valley view. Drive to Dawki on the Bangladesh border and board a boat on the Umngot River — the water is so transparent the boat appears to float on air. Easily one of India's most surreal experiences.

Final morning hike or a relaxed walk through Shillong's pine forests before your tour manager drives you back to Guwahati airport. Fly home with memories of root bridges, crystal rivers, and the kindness of the Khasi people.
