After check-in, dive straight into the sensory spectacle of Khan el-Khalili — Cairo's iconic 14th-century bazaar where spice merchants, goldsmiths, and perfumers line narrow alleyways. Wind up the evening with a traditional Egyptian dinner and a welcome briefing on the days ahead.

The day every traveller dreams of. Stand at the base of the Great Pyramid of Khufu — the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. Meet the Sphinx up close, then explore the Solar Boat Museum where a 4,500-year-old cedar vessel lies perfectly preserved. Continue to Memphis, the ancient capital, and end with the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara, Egypt's oldest stone pyramid.

Morning at the world-renowned Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square — home to over 120,000 artefacts including the complete treasures of Tutankhamun: his solid gold death mask, jewellery, and gilded chariots. A quick walk around Tahrir Square follows, then transfer to the airport for an afternoon domestic flight to Luxor. Check in to your Nile-side hotel as the city's temple lights begin to glow.

Explore Luxor's East Bank — the land of the living. Begin at Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever built, a city of temples spanning 200 acres with its famous Avenue of Sphinxes. In the afternoon visit Luxor Temple, built by Ramesses II, then linger for the spectacular sound-and-light show that transforms the ancient stones into a theatre of history after dark.

Cross to the West Bank — the land of the dead — where pharaohs chose to be buried beneath the mountains. Descend into the Valley of the Kings including Tutankhamun's tomb, marvel at the perfectly preserved mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut carved into the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari, and photograph the twin Colossi of Memnon standing sentinel in the fields. In the afternoon, board your 5-star Nile Cruise ship for the Edfu–Kom Ombo route.

Drift south through the timeless Nile valley. Morning stop at Edfu to visit the Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt with its magnificent falcon-headed pylons. Continue to Kom Ombo for the unusual double temple dedicated simultaneously to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. Arrive Aswan in the evening and take a motorboat to the island-set Philae Temple dedicated to the goddess Isis — breathtaking at dusk.

Begin with a visit to the engineering marvel of the Aswan High Dam that tamed the Nile and created Lake Nasser. Optional early morning excursion to Abu Simbel — the colossal rock-cut temples of Ramesses II relocated in one of history's greatest engineering feats (additional cost).
