Arrive at Haridwar or Rishikesh and check in to your hotel. Evening at the legendary Har Ki Pauri Ghat for the spectacular Ganga Aarti — thousands of oil lamps floated on the holy river as priests perform the fire ritual. Your pilgrimage-specialist tour manager conducts a detailed briefing: altitude, clothing, temple protocol, pony bookings, and weather contingencies.

Haridwar → Barkot
Yamunotri base · 7hr scenic drive · Mussoorie viewpoint
Early start for the seven-hour mountain drive to Barkot — the base camp for Yamunotri dham. The route passes through Mussoorie (optional brief stop) and climbs steadily into the Garhwal Himalayas. Check in to your guesthouse in Barkot for rest and preparation.

Yamunotri Dham
6km trek / pony · Surya Kund · Yamuna source darshan
Drive to Janki Chatti (the trailhead), then trek or take a pony for 6km through pine forests to the Yamunotri Temple at 3,291m — the source of the sacred Yamuna river. Dip in the naturally boiling Surya Kund hot spring (84°C), cook rice in the spring as prasad (a local tradition), receive blessings at the temple, and return to Barkot. Dinner and early rest for the next day's drive.

Barkot → Uttarkashi
Gangotri base · Bhagirathi river dip
Three-hour drive to Uttarkashi, the base for Gangotri. En route, pause at the confluence of the Yamuna and Bhagirathi rivers. Check in and take a dip in the ice-cold Bhagirathi river — considered purifying. The Uttarkashi market has excellent woollens and prayer items for purchase.

Gangotri Dham
Gangotri Temple · Ganga origin darshan · Bhagirathi gorge
Drive 100km to Gangotri (3,100m) — where the Ganges is said to have descended to earth. Gangotri Temple houses the footprint of Vishnu and is surrounded by peaks above 6,000m. Perform puja at the temple, take a dip in the Bhagirathi, and walk to the gorge viewpoint. Optional: 18km trek to Gaumukh glacier (the actual source) for the adventurous. Return to Uttarkashi.

Uttarkashi → Guptkashi
Kedarnath base · 7hr Himalayan drive
A full day's drive (7 hours) through the Uttarkashi–Tilwara–Guptkashi route, crossing the Tehri Dam reservoir and descending into the Mandakini valley. Guptkashi is the gateway to Kedarnath. Check in, and visit the small Vishwanath Temple (a replica of Varanasi's Kashi Vishwanath) for evening prayers.

Kedarnath Dham
16km trek · Jyotirlinga darshan · 3583m altitude
The spiritual centrepiece of the entire yatra. Drive to Sonprayag, then 16km trek (or helicopter) to Kedarnath Temple at 3,583m — one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and the highest of the Char Dhams. The ancient stone temple stands against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. Morning darshan, evening aarti, overnight at Kedarnath (basic GMVN accommodation at this altitude).

Kedarnath → Rudraprayag
Morning darshan · Descend · Sangam confluence
Early morning darshan at Kedarnath before the crowds. Descend via trek or helicopter to Sonprayag, then drive to Rudraprayag — the sacred confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. Hotel check-in, rest, and preparation for the final phase of the yatra.

Rudraprayag → Joshimath
Badrinath base · Prayag confluences en route
Six-hour drive through the Panch Prayag (five sacred river confluences) — Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandprayag, Vishnuprayag — the Alaknanda gathering tributaries one by one. Arrive Joshimath (the town below Badrinath), check in. Optional evening ropeway to Auli for Himalayan views.

Badrinath Dham
Tapt Kund · Badrinath Temple · Mana Village · Brahma Kapal
The final and most important dham. Drive to Badrinath (3,133m). Ritual dip in Tapt Kund hot spring before temple darshan. The Badrinath Temple — dedicated to Lord Vishnu — is one of the 108 Divya Desams and was restored by Adi Shankaracharya. Afternoon drive to Mana Village (3km away) — the last inhabited village before the Tibet border — and Vyas Gufa (cave where the Mahabharata was composed). Brahma Kapal ghat for ancestor rites. Return to Joshimath.

Joshimath → Rishikesh
10hr return drive · Devprayag Sangam · Lakshman Jhula
Long but rewarding return drive. Stop at Devprayag — the final confluence where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda merge to form the Ganges. Arrive Rishikesh in the evening. Check in, walk across Lakshman Jhula, and spend the evening at peace on the ghats — the pilgrimage complete.

Rishikesh → Depart
Yoga · Ram Jhula · Transfer to Haridwar / Dehradun
Morning yoga and meditation on the Ganges banks — a fitting close to the yatra. Visit Ram Jhula and the Beatles Ashram (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's former ashram). After breakfast, transfer to Haridwar railway station or Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) for your onward journey.
