The Queen of Hills

Mussoorie sits at 2,000m in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, 35km from Dehradun and a 6-hour drive from Delhi. The view from the western end of Mall Road — across the Doon Valley and into the snow-covered Himalayan ranges including Kedarnath and Bandarpunch — is one of the great views of North India, and on a clear October morning it is genuinely breathtaking.

The colonial-era Mall Road is Mussoorie's spine — lined with Victorian-era buildings, cafes, and shops. Camel's Back Road offers the best sunset views in the hill station. Kempty Falls (15km away) is one of the most visited natural attractions in the Himalayas. And the quiet cantonment village of Landour — beloved by author Ruskin Bond who has lived here for decades — is one of India's most charming and literary corners.

For families from Delhi, Mussoorie is the most accessible Himalayan hill station — 6 hours by road or via Dehradun. The Gun Hill ropeway gives families spectacular views without any trekking. And in winter (December through February), snowfall transforms Mussoorie into something magical. Tripharbr arranges everything — hotel, transfers, Dehradun pickup, and all activities.

What You Need to Know Before You Go

Getting to Mussoorie
From Delhi by road: 6–7 hours via Dehradun on NH-334B. Most travelers depart by 5–6 AM and arrive by noon.
Fly to Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport (1.5 hours from Delhi by air) then drive 58km to Mussoorie (1.5 hours).
Shatabdi Express from Delhi to Dehradun (5.5 hours) then taxi to Mussoorie (1.5 hours) — comfortable and scenic.
Landour — What to Do
Visit Char Dukan — four small shops that have been there since the British era. Best breakfast spot in Mussoorie with extraordinary views.
Ruskin Bond visits local bookshops occasionally — Cambridge Book Depot on Mall Road carries his complete works.
The Landour Language School (one of India's oldest Hindi language schools) is open to visitors for a brief tour if interested.
Best Time & Crowds
May and June are the most crowded months as North Indian families escape the summer heat. Book accommodation 2–3 months ahead for these months.
September and October offer the clearest Himalayan views of the year — the post-monsoon air is crystal clean. Our personal favourite months.
December visits can be magical if snowfall occurs but it is not guaranteed — Shimla and Kufri are more reliable for snow.
